/ Missed call text back for small businesses
Missed call text back, set up for you.
When nobody can get to the phone, the caller gets a text from your business a few seconds later. They can ask a question, book a time, or tell you it is urgent, and you call back already knowing what they need.
One engineer in St. Charles builds it on the calendar and software you already pay for, and it stays yours.
How a missed call text back works
The call rings out
Your phone rings the way it does today. When nobody picks up, or it is after hours, the system notices within seconds.
A text goes out
The caller gets a short message from your business while the phone is still in their hand, before they dial the next name on the list.
The reply gets handled
Routine questions get your answers, a booking link, or two quick questions like the address and what is wrong. Anything urgent reaches your phone right away.
You call back knowing why
Every conversation is logged where you already work, in your job software, CRM, or a sheet, so the callback starts with what they need.
What to say in a missed call text
Six missed call text messages to copy
A good one names the business, says sorry once, and gives the caller one easy way to answer. Swap the parts in brackets for your own details. Add "Reply STOP to opt out" to whichever text goes out first, and each one still fits in a single message.

Weave and HighLevel both include a missed call text back, and plenty of phone systems do too. If you already pay for one, switch it on before you pay anyone to build one. A custom build earns its keep where the basic version stops:
- Different messages for business hours and after hours
- An urgent path that calls you instead of waiting in a queue
- A couple of questions that sort the job before you call back
- Replies that land in the software you already use, not a separate inbox
- A follow-up when nobody answers the first text
Weighing it against a live answering service instead? Answering service vs missed-call text-back covers where each one fits.
What a missed call text back costs
- Starter build
- $500
- one-time
- Then monthly
- $99/mo
- starts after 30 days
- Cancel the monthly
- Anytime
- the system stays yours
A missed call text back on its own is a Starter build: one automation, wired into the tools you already use, with handoff docs. The monthly keeps it monitored and working, and the system stays yours if you stop. Pairing it with quote follow-up or booking moves it into a bigger tier. See every tier.
Before it goes live
- The number gets registered. US carriers require business texting from a regular 10-digit number to be registered through A2P 10DLC, and they filter or block traffic that is not. That is handled as part of the build.
- STOP always works. The first text includes how to opt out, and anyone who replies STOP, CANCEL or UNSUBSCRIBE is never texted again, which is what the wireless industry messaging guidelines expect.
- A person still calls back. The text buys time and gathers the details. The customer who is upset, the job that needs judgment, and the regular who wants to hear your voice all get a call from someone who knows them.
None of this is legal advice. If your industry has its own rules for contacting customers, the audit is the place to raise them.
Asked about missed call text back
- 01Does the text come from my business number?
- Where your phone provider allows it, yes: the text comes from the number the customer just called, so it is obviously you. Where it does not, the texts come from a separate local number and the first line says who it is from. The audit checks which one your line supports.
- 02What happens after hours?
- Callers after hours get a different message that says when you open and asks what they need. If your work has real emergencies, a reply like URGENT can ring your phone right away while everything else waits for the morning.
- 03What if the caller is on a landline?
- A caller on a landline may never see the text. The missed call is still logged with the number and the time, so you can call back, and your voicemail still covers anyone who wants to leave a message.
- 04How long does it take to set up?
- Most first systems are live within a few weeks of the free audit. Carriers also have to approve the texting registration before any messages go out, so that wait is part of the timeline.
- 05Will customers find the texts annoying?
- One text per missed call, from a business they just tried to reach, answers a question they already had. Every message can be answered, and anyone who replies STOP never gets another one.
