What do missed calls cost you?

Missed calls are the easiest revenue leak to ignore, because nothing shows up on a report when a customer gives up and calls the next business. Move the sliders to your own numbers and the arithmetic is done for you.

Unanswered, after hours, or gone to voicemail without a callback.

Of the callers you missed, how many were real work you would have won.

Math: missed calls per week × the share who would have booked × average job value, then × 52 for the year. Every number above is yours. This tool has no built-in industry averages, because the honest version of this calculation is the one you can check against your own books.

What the number does not include

This is the direct loss only. It leaves out the customer who would have come back, the review they would have left, and the neighbour they would have told. It also leaves out what the interruptions cost the person who does manage to answer. The real figure is higher than what the calculator shows, which is why the arithmetic here stays deliberately conservative.

What fixing it looks like

Every call gets answered, including after hours. The routine ones get triaged and booked into real availability on your calendar. Anything unusual reaches a person instead of being guessed at, and every action is logged so you can see what happened. Builds start at $500 one-time, then a flat monthly after an included run-in period.

Worked examples by trade: dental, hvac, property management, plumbing.

Questions

How do I know how many calls I miss?

Most phone systems and mobile carriers report missed calls, and your voicemail box is the other half of the answer. Count a week rather than estimating a month, because a week is short enough to check honestly.

What close rate should I use?

Use your own. If you know what share of answered calls turn into work, start there and adjust down, since a caller who reached voicemail is colder than one who reached you. This calculator deliberately ships with no industry benchmark because a number we cannot source is worse than no number.

Does answering every call actually fix this?

Answering is the first half. The second half is booking the work while the caller is still on the phone, which is why the systems that pay for themselves handle scheduling rather than just taking a message.
